Press Release
Nike Lunar Wood TZ uses P2i’s ion-mask™ technology
10 December 2009
Sneakerheads will get an additional performance benefit with the latest launch
of Nike Lunar Wood TZ. Using technology by P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent
nano-coating technology, Nike’s new lightweight and comfortable running
shoe will keep wearers dry during the wettest of winters.
Because ion-mask™ gives the whole shoe (including the stitching) superior
water repellency, it delivers two crucial benefits; one, it stops external water
getting in and two, it encourages evaporated perspiration to flow out. As a result,
shoes dry out more quickly, won’t get heavier over time, and maintain the
natural airflow of their construction material. By optimizing temperature and ‘breathability’ for
feet, ion-mask™ will ensure that the Lunar Wood TZ shoes keep wearers feet
more comfortable and dry in the most challenging performance conditions.
Nike will launch the Lunar Wood TZ at selected global Nike Sportswear retailers
on 19 December 2009.
This has been a great year for P2i and in particular their growth in the sportswear
sector. The world’s first P2i-processed shoe, the V-Lite Altitude Ultra
launched in 2008, now boasts record sales of over a quarter of a million pairs
globally. P2i has now attracted other premium brand footwear companies including
ECCO, Van-Dal and adidas Golf. P2i has two consumer brands for its technology:
ion-mask™ for footwear, outdoor clothing and accessories, and Aridion™ for
consumer electronics. For industrial applications, the technology is covered
by the corporate P2i brand. Looking ahead, Stephen Coulson can see a multi-billion
dollar royalty potential from P2i's liquid repellent nano-coating technology
applications. For the long term, they're thinking big: in addition to being the
world leader in liquid repellent nano-coatings, P2i's future ambition is to become
the world leader in functional nano-coating technology – no matter
what that desired function may be.
