About Synergis Technologies
Synergis provides initial funding of between £250k and £1m
in high value technology businesses. Synergis prides itself being a very ‘hands
on’ investor and once invested, gets involved in its companies at
all stages of their development to accelerate their commercial and technical
progress, build a strong management team and develop a clear strategy for
exit.
Investment Criteria
Synergis invests in high growth companies that develop high value technologies with significant global market potential underpinned by a strong intellectual property position. The technology needs to be disruptive and often provides a platform for several exciting application areas. We only invest in technologies where there is evidence of clear market need and obvious commercial applicability. We like to see a concise and carefully constructed business plan outlining the opportunity in a manner that is easy to understand.
The Company should have a clear understanding of how it wants to develop the business through to a successful exit. It should be aware of and have a thorough understanding of the market that it is trying to address and how it intends to approach this market. The Company should also be aware of who its competitors are and be able to clearly demonstrate the value of its technology and its unique selling points over that of its competitors. We also like to see how the funds raised will be used to build the business.
As well as offering a significant technical innovation over incumbent technologies, the Company must have taken steps to adequately protect its Intellectual Property and have a well-defined commercial strategy leading up to a profitable exit.
The opportunities that Synergis invests in can be pre-revenue by must be beyond the proof-of-concept stage. A complete management team is not essential because part of any Synergis investment can be used to build an experienced management team around the technology. As long as a core management structure is in place, the team at Synergis can draw on its network of industry professionals to help deliver success to the business.
Synergis has a preference for technologies in the following four sectors:
- Defence and Security – these include both hardware and software for the defence and security sectors
- Advanced Materials and Engineering – these include novel display and audio technologies, polymer technologies for industrial applications and other types of novel materials
- Clean Technologies – these include water technologies, low-carbon and environmental technologies, fuel cells, waste management and energy-efficient technologies
- Medical Devices and Diagnostics – these include medical devices for a range of applications and all forms of diagnostic technologies although we do not fund drug discovery or drug delivery technologies
